30 years G – Class

International Anniversary Meeting of G – Class owners

19 – 21 June 2009, Graz, Austria



On the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the Mercedes G - Class, an international meeting of G-Class owners is being held in Graz, Austria. This event is being organized by the Mercedes-Benz Geländewagen-Club Germany and Swiss-G-Club Switzerland, with the support of Mercedes-Benz, Stuttgart, Magna-Steyr, Graz, (where the G – Class is being produced) and the City of Graz.

All G - Class owner clubs and associations as well as individual G – Class owners, from all around the world are welcome to this unique event. Although at this stage it is difficult to estimate how many people will join this meeting, we have assumed for our planning that we’ll bring together some 500 or more G –Class! Ideally, we’ll get together G-Wagens from each year of construction 1979 to 2009, in the many varieties that were produced over time. Imagine the sight of this!



The key facts:

Central location: Schwarzlsee Recreation Centre, 5 km from Graz. It has sufficient parking space, catering facilities, a camping and a hall large enough for the big 30y G-Class birthday party.

Timing: Friday 19 to Sunday 21 june 2009

Arrival and registration: from Thursday 18 june 2008.

Preliminary programme:

Friday 19 june

Visit to G – Class production at Magna-Steyr. This will go on all day in groups of 20 participants. The visit to production is only possible one this day!! Before and/or after the factory visit it can be driven with a recreational roadbook in the surroundings of Graz. The roadbook will be produced in 2 parts and can be driven individually.



Saturday 20 June

The big party day.

on this day you also can ride the experience-tour surround the City of Graz. In the afternoon there will be a “Beauty Contest” in the follwing categories: the ‘Best of Show’, ‘Most of Power’’, ‘Best of Comfort’’, ‘Best Original’, ‘Best Oldie’, ‘Biggest Wheels’ and the longest driven distance travelled by a G – Class to the event etc.

The evening we will have a 30y birthday banquet and anniversary ceremony.

Sunday, 21 June

we will starting this day with a big G Parade in and around the City of Graz, after this Parade we will closed the big G – Class event.



Next steps:

This pre-information is sent to G – Class clubs and owners only, to enable you to already inform your members about the event and to take it into account in your planning for 2009.

The next step in the public domain will be the launch of a special website before the end of 2008. This website will provide more details and will be the only tool to register for the event. The site will also provide links to accommodation, where participants can book directly. This will range from the camping site at our central location to a number of hotels in the area, where we have made block reservations at special rates.

We will inform you when our website will be available. From that moment on, we’d ask you to help spreading the news about the event in your country also outside your club.

We’d hope we have created interest in the unique event and can count on your support and participation. Any ideas and suggestions would be welcome.

Looking forward to meeting you in Graz next year at what is most likely to become the largest ever gathering of G – Class enthousiasts ever held in the world. As a G- Class owner, you wouldn’t want to miss it.
